The PACA (Picture Archive Council of Amercia) 2004 Annual Meeting will be held May 15 & 16, 2004 in White Plains New York.
Quite interesting in this year´s program is of course the Art Buyers Panel: "Our past Art Buyer panels have been challenging, frustrating, and very informative. Those who attended New Orleans [last PACA meeting on November 2003] will remember the fireworks sparked when one art director said she prefers using GOOGLE to going to an agency, and then calling photographers directly." Sure, who needs agencies any more when pros can get into business on their own?
The PACA Ninth International Meeting will be held October 17 & 18th, 2004 at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City in Greater Manhattan. This date coincide with PictureHouse (Tribeca Rooftop October 20, 2004, 11am - 7pm) of Michael Brown Associates and the PhotoPlus Expo 2004 (October 21-23, 2004, Jacob Javits Convention Center) in New York.
The CEPIC Meeting (Coordination of Europe Picture Agencies Press Stock Heritage) will be held in Copenhagen From 10 June to 13 June 2004. From what we hear the FRIDAY & SATURDAY SPECIAL WORKING GROUP SESSIONS is still under development (mainly because we didn´t meet the submission deadline for presentations =:-D ). The big event will of course be the Panel Presentation "CHALLENGES for the Picture Industry in the 21st Century", Friday 11 June, 9.30 – 12.30; Jeffrey Burke (Vice President, PACA and President & CEO of PictureArts Corporation) will give an update on the PLUS project (1; 2), the future "Picture Licensing Universal System".
The BAPLA (British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies ) Picture Buyers Fair 2004 will be held 12 May to 13 May this year at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London. The show dedicated to Picture Researchers and Image Buyers is said to be the largest image-buying event in the world (details of the seminar program).
