Corbis - its third acquisition in the past eight months - has announced a
3-part announcement including the launch of “rf SHOP,” a new royalty free website on corbis.com, the signing of numerous leading content partners including Jupiterimages, MedioImages, and Blend, and the acquisition of image100.
More here and in-depth at the Stock Asylum*. The new rf SHOP showcases nearly 200,000 images. The acquisition of image100 adds another 40,000 images to the Corbis pool.
image100 is a "30-person London stock photography company... . Corbis spokesman Dov Schiff said no layoffs are planned, although there could be cuts if redundancies are found in areas such as accounting or administration" (Seattle Post). - Does anyone remember the ZEFA deal ("Zefa: People On The Move") ?
After Getty Images had finalized the distribution agreement with Jupiterimages (Comstock and Thinkstock), Corbis explains "RF photography collections from Corbis, image100, MedioImages, Blend, Image Source, Brand X, Goodshoot, DEX and others are available for immediate licensing, and Jupitermedia’s Thinkstock and Comstock collections are coming soon."
Gadgetopia has another story ("My Corbis Nightmare"; although funny to read, quite unfair because what is described can happen to you anywhere anytime with any photo agency in the wrong moment).
Anyway, apart from that and completely off the topic Paul's Personalized Google News launches, around 2031.
*The other day I received an email from an account director of Trylon Communications, a NYC-based PR company with the winsome request to read or link to the Stock Asylum article (it had already been on my screen hours earlier).
Meanwhile Stock Asylum is a top source of information that doesn´t need any assistance of a PR company; on top of that Stock Asylum won´t be willing to spend huge bucks for a PR service.
So, returning to Trylon I noticed that one of their clients is - Corbis... .
